Yep, Dr Who fans are better than Red Dwarf fans. FACT. :x
Ah I meant to say I read it on a twitter feed, I have no idea if it's a red herring or true, or BS, was just answering a question in all sincerity!
Red Dwarf fans: Hundreds of fans watch the show live and don't spoil a single thing for 10 months (the only big leak up to now was by a rubbish little website who went to a press screening).
Doctor Who fans: Have a network of fans who hunt down location filming to actively find spoilers for the show despite the production teams preference of no spoilers being released.
And it likely isn't a spoiler. It is likely a guess based on what Doug proposed as an idea he had for the new series back in the last Dimension Jump a year and a half ago.
I remember reading Richard Naylor's Twitter and him mentioning that the new series has no Ace Rimmer or Dwayne Dibley.
I haven't read anything in this thread, but isn't it a bit unfair this topic is allowed to be discussed on its own and not in the already existing UKTV Synopsis Discussion thread? I don't want to know any information about the episodes until I'm sitting watching them being broadcast. I don't want to know who or what Rimmer's old foe could be, and I'd like to be able to read the forum without having information I would consider a bit spoilerish to be revealed to me when the forum loads up without warning.
Perhaps this thread could be merged and all future discussions on this topic and any other stemming from the recent synopsis reveal be kept in one place to avoid people seeing something they don't want to?
To be honest a lot of people myself likely already know who said foe is because it has leaked unofficially, as such people should not be blurting the spoiler that the people who actually went to the recordings have been good enough as to keep quite. I think all people who know (once again myself included) should keep quite about it so's not to ruin the surprise for anyone else.
Okay, I have something to say (well there's a surprise eh? ) I've been noticing a certain amount of irony within some of these threads recently.
I think it may be a good idea for those who may or may not know something for sure about things that other people have said - of which may or may not be true - to carefully concider their reactions to what may or may have been said about what may or may not be true...um, are you still following me on this?
What I'm trying to say is that in some recent cases, both here and on the official synosis discussion thread, there has been some innocent fan speculation. Most, if not all has been pretty acceptable I think. However, it seems to me that certain reactions of some who do know whether or not cetain things are fact or just innocent speculation could in fact serve as a confirmation of such, albeit unintentionally.
So I would suggest that if someone's speculations happen to come close to the truth, then it's probably best for those who do know the truth to keep quiet. Especially those of us who have seen one or more of the recordings. I've had to do this on various occasions over the past year...only to then realise that the initial synosis went and blabbed about a certain something louder than Quade may or may not have blabbed about Mars.
In fact the only thing I've seen written or spoken about regarding the episode I saw recorded - that may be concidered a bit spoilerish - did indeed come from the initial official synosis. Although on the plus side, as mentioned on the other thread, there is no real call to worry too much in this case, as there are some major aspects of the ep I saw that I've not seen discussed anywhere. And so long as things stay that way, I can safely say that you are all still in for some unexpected surprises And from what Seb has mentioned a few times, it seems that's the case with most, if not all the other episodes too.
As for what was written on some site about Rimmers old foe, I have no intention of looking that up and am still unsure as to what may or may not be a "red Herring"...although I suspect it to be the name of a new ship - "The Red Herring", I mean...ooh, or I wonder if it could be connected to the time it rained herring?...
I really hope it's some character that we're already familiar with and played by the original actor. Or, at the very least, a previously talked about character that we've never seen before such as Porky Roebuck. That would be much more interesting than some new character from Rimmer's past who's just been invented for the purposes of this episode.
Top of my list of characters that I hope it will be is Captain Hollister.
No one said that, nor did anyone imply it.
Err, I did!
FACT? On what basis sir?
I don't like the recent few series of Dr. Who, does this make me "worse" than a Dr. Who fan?
EDIT: Actually, forget about replying, this post wasn't really worth it as it will just carry on derailing the thread with no outcome.
Pfft. What a silly question. Of course it does!! (I joke)
I agree with your post. However, presuming you are referring to me I should clarify a few things.
I did not attend any recordings. I have not read any spoilers other than the official synopsis. I have no inside information about plot details.
MY concern was simply that Junkstar stated he was repeating something he had "read" and this should have given him enough concern that the thing he read may have been true and therefore a spoiler. It may well be a pile of smeg for all I know but on the chance that it isn't the sensible thing would have been for Junkstar not to mention it. Choosing to read "spoilers" is one thing but choosing to republish them here is quite another.
I deliberately didn't quote Junkstar in my reply because I thought that after reading my concern he would have the good sense to edit his post just in case. Unfortunately a certain attention seeker then went and quoted it in full just to do a bit of petty point scoring in a game only he is interested in playing.
I suppose that, for the reasons you mention, it is now impossible to moderate this thread without raising further suspicion unless we all agree that it shouldn't exist in the first place as it gives away a spoiler e.g. that "Rimmer's old foe" will appear in the title. That might be grounds for deletion without having to signify either way whether Junkstar was right or wrong about the identity of said foe.
lol ohhh Daniel has a game going too?? did you lose horribly in that one as well? :P
anti made this topic for this exact reason trying to get ppl in trouble.
and poor junkstar fell for it yet it was not his fault someone with the inside info decided to post it and then retract it later hoping none saw their mistake 28349023480 ppl saw including wiki
Actually I wasn't refering to you, nore any one specific individual (although my whole "may or may not" speel was...well, it's a blatent clue innit?) It was my hope that my post would be taken as more of a general suggestion to whoever it may concern. Although reading my post back I can see how that kind of ambiguity may lead to some confusion. But, well, I just didn't want to name specific forum members really.
Regarding what you said about Junkstar's post, my slight concern was more to do with the follow up to that, as it seemed like it may be leading to some kind of unfortunate confirmation...but perhaps not.
But as I mentioned I've seen a few things on various threads where certain reactions seemed close to confirming factual events...then again, maybe I just over analyize too much :?
I actually almost made a similar post the other day on the official synopsis thread after a certain reaction on there - not that I blame said member for reacting that way, it's clear he was just trying to protect the integrity of the show. But sometimes such a reaction can appear quite telling, albeit unintentionally.
Edit: ..although somewhat ironically it's just occured to me that I may be making this worse now with this very reply - unintentionally planting seeds that may not have even been noticed by some...bit of an unfortunate paradox really..
Why is it "a rubbish little website"?
Anyway look at the preview screenings of Asylum of the Daleks which was reviewed/discussed spoiler free. No articles gave away the big surprise.
I guess the "network of fans" goes to show that Doctor Who is more popular than Red Dwarf. . .
Because it broke an embargo which all bigger sites managed to keep. It was not a specialised Red Dwarf site. It was a cult TV site. Won't reveal the site though, don't want people finding the site (and don't think it deserves any exposure).
Surprising because every other big event has been spoiled in the past. Including the previous two Doctors leaving (Eccleston a few months before, Tennant a few hours before it was supposed to be announced).
Doctor Who is more popular than Red Dwarf. That wasn't my point. Read what I said again and don't try and twist this into "my show is bigger than your show".
Hang on a second, what the hell are you talking about you fool? The synopsis and titles were put up on this site- I asked the question for people to guess and have a discussion about not to "get people in trouble"! I don't need some Chav in a baseball cap poking his nose in stirring up ridiculous rubbish thanks! It was a topic on conversation which most (apart from the ridiculous and sensitive) have managed to stick to regardless of whether anyone went to the recordings! Go and bore someone in your baseball cap somewhere else!! Silly boy
